Nativity Church
An invited international design competition. Responding to the contoured curves of the site, the walls are a series of sliding planes, revealing the entrances to the church and fading into the landscaped terraces. In plan, the church forms an ellipse with the focus towards the sky with a glazed roof.
The external walls are formed from concrete and clad in stone fins. In contrast, slender steel columns located behind the walls, support a folded steel roof structure which serves both to provide solar shading and create a cloud-like ceiling to the church.
